تضمن الكتاب ستة ابواب تشتمل على عشرين فصلاً بيانها كالتالي، الباب الاول: اشكالية المفاهيم ويشتمل على فصل واحد يعرض اهم المفاهيم الخاصة بالمنهج ومراحل تطوره. الباب الثاني: أسس المنهج ويشتمل على اربعة فصول تدور حول الاساس العقدي والأسس الفلسفية والثقافية للمنهج وكذلك الاسس المعرفية والنفسية. الباب الثالث: آليات بناء المنهج ويشتمل على خمسة فصول تدور حول مكونات المنهج المدرسي الخمسة، الأهداف والمحتوى واستراتيجيات التدريس والنشاط المدرسي والتقويم. الباب الرابع: تنظيمات المنهج ونظرياته ويشتمل على ثلاثة فصول تدور حول التنظيمات الشائعة للمنهج مثل منهج المواد المنفصلة والمنهج المترابط ومنهج الدمج وغيرها وكذلك منهج الوحدات واهم نظريات المنهج مثل النظرية الموسوعية والبراجماتية والاسلامية وغيرها. الباب الخامس: المنهج والتكنولوجيا ويشتمل على فصلين يدوران حول استخدام التكنولوجيا في المنهج المدرسي والمنهج الالكتروني. الباب السادس: اتجاهات معاصرة في تطوير المنهج ويشتمل على خمسة فصول تدور حول اسس واليات تطوير المنهج مع عرض لبعض الاتجاهات المعاصرة في تطورير المنهج مثل الذكاءات المتعددة وكذلك المعايير القومية للمنهج الدراسي.
