هذا كتاب حوي لاول مرة في التاريخ رسائل الزعيم مصطفي كامل بعث بها الي صديق العمر "فؤاد سليم الحجازي باشا" ظلت محجوبة عن الاعين اكثر من سبعين عاماً, سنرى من خلال مطالعتها ما لم نراه في مصطفي كامل, وما لم يعرفه التاريخ عنه, سنراه في اشد انفعالاته النفسية, سنطلع علي شىء من عوامل اليأس التي كانت تعتريه في بعض الاحيان, وتدفعه الي التفكير في الانتحار.
ولكننا لا ننظر الي هذا اليأس نظرتنا الي اليأس الذي يطفيء نور القلب ويجعل صاحبه جثة مشلولة الوعي والارادة, يعطل سيرها موكب الخائنين, فقد كان يأس مصطفي كامل, يأسا طارئاً ليس له بذور, نشأ مصطفي كامل نزاعا الي الاستقلال, خصما للاحتلال ومأجوريه فنصب نفسه حرباً عليهم وعندما اتصل بلطيف سليم الحجازي و جماعته هؤلاء الرواد الذين اعتنقوا تعاليم الافغاني- جعل هدفه الاستفادة من علمهم وخبرتهم , وانطلق بتأييد منهم يدعو لحرية الوطن ويحذر الشعب من الآراء المثبطة للمهم.
ولا اريد ام اطيل عليك ايها القارىء, فما هو هذا الكتاب بين يديك يضم من هذه الرسائل التي ذكرنا لك فقرات من احداها "ثلاث عشرة رسالة" ستعيش من خلال مطالعتها مع مصطفي كامل.. مع آماله ويأسه واحزانه وابتساماته, وتشاؤمه وتفاؤله, حبه للوطن, وكفره بالمأجورين والسلبين ودعواته لهم بالهداية والرشاد.
ولسوف تنشر هذه الرسائل مرة ومرات, ولسوف يتناولها المؤرخون وعلماء النفس وكتاب السير بالتحليل والتعقيب. وهو ما قصدنا إليه من تسجيلها في هذا الكتاب, خدمة للتاريخ, ولا ادعي الفضل في انني عثرت علي هذه الرسائل باجتهادى وإنما الفضل للصدفة التي اتاحت لي لقاء السيد الاستاذ "محمد سليم الحجازي باشا "ونجل المغفور له " فؤاد سليم الحجازي باشا".
