"ليس هدف هذه الرحلة أبعد من تقليب صور العاديّ في نظر المقيمين في المكان، فلن اكتشف أرضاً لم تطأها قدم من قبل، ولن أقطع البلاد طولاً وعرضاً على ظهر ناقة كما فعل رحّالة أجانب في فترة التحوّل من بيت سعف النخيل إلى بيت الباطون والحجر، ومن الجمل إلى سيارة الدفع الرباعيّ، ومن القلّة في كلّ شيء إلى وفرة حوّلت المكان معرضاً مفتوحاً لكلّ ما ينتج في العالم.
لا، ليس هذا مقصد هذه الرحلة، أوّلاً: لأنّ المكان الظبيانيّ (والخليجيّ عموماً)، الذي وصفه أولئك الرحّالة الأجانب، لم يعد كما كان عليه، وثانياً: لأنّ الفتنة بالصحراء والبداوة، عند بعض هؤلاء الرحّالة، كانت ضرباً من "التظهّر" من "أدران" الحضارة والمدنيّة، أو درساً أنثروبولوجيا إستشراقيّاً، بينما البداوة في نظري، مرحلة من مراحل التطوّر الإجتماعيّ والإقتصادي للمكان، سواء أحببنا هذا التطوّر أم كرهناه".
