العلاقة بين التكفير والإرهاب، ووجهة نظر الشرع فيما ينتج عنهما، هو المجال الذي يدور حوله كتاب "منابع التكفير والإرهاب وخطر العقول المفخخة" للعلامة حسين الراضي العبد الله.
يطرح الكتاب أسئلة عديدة، مثل: عند اختلاف العلماء فيما بيهم في القضايا العلمية أو غيرها فهل يجوز نقد بعضهم لبعض؟ أو يجوز لغيرهم أن ينتقدهم؟ وما هو موقف الإسلام من النقد للآخرين بشكل عام؛ ونقد العلماء بعضهم لبعض بشكل خاص؟ فهل هو جائز أم واجب أم محرم؟
يعتبر المؤلف أن الإسلام لا يمتنع من أن يحاوره كل من يريد الحقيقة، وليس عنده خطوط حمر للنقد، بل يتقبل كل من ينقد أفكاره مهما كان دينه أو مذهبه أو عقيدته، ويبرهن على هذا المؤلف بالقول: كانت حوارات بني الإسلام صلى الله عليه وسلم والأئمة الطاهرين عليهم السلام ورجال الدين مع مختلف الأديان والمذاهب والعقائد، وكانت النقود والإشكالات توجه إليهم من صدر الإسلام وإلى يومنا هذا، وخير شاهد على ذلك أنه - أي النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم - لم يمنع أحد منهم من النقد والإعتراض؛ ولم يعاقب شخص لأنه قدم نقداً أو إشكالاً بل تقبل كل الإشكالات من اليهود والمسيحيين والمشركين والزنادقة ورد عليهم وحاورهم وكذلك فعل الإمام الصادق عليه السلام في حواره مع إبن أبي العوجاء وغيره من أئمة المسلمين.
وبناء على ما سبق يتعرض الكتاب إلى خطر التكفير في الكتاب والسنة، والأحاديث الموضوعة في تكفير الشيعة، والفتاوى التكفيرية ونتائجها على الأمة، وموقف أهل البيت عليهم السلام من الوحدة الإسلامية، ويبحث في علاج ظاهرة التكفير من الناحية العلمية بالإضافة إلى الدينية، وأهمية التواصل بين علماء الفريقين من السنة والشيعة وموضوعات أخرى ذات صلة.
