هذا الكتاب هو دراسة لحياة أحد العلماء الأعلام, وهو الإمام يوسف بن عبد الهادي الحنبلي المقدسي, الذي كان له الأثر الكبير والإنتاج العظيم والآثار العديدة التي لا يزال معظمها مخطوطاً, ولم ينل حظه من الدراسة والبحث والشهرة.
وقد شمل البحث تمهيداً, ثلاثة أبواب وخاتمة. ففي التمهيد تحدث المؤلف عن أثر الحنابلة في دمشق. وفي الباب الأول تحدث عن عصر الإمام يوسف بن عبد الهادي, وخصص البحث الثاني للتعريف بالإمام, وأما الباب الثالث فهو دراسة لبعض مؤلفاته الفقهية, بالإضافة إلى تحقيق لكتاب "سير الحاث إلى علم الطلاق الثلاث" لابن عبد الهادي. واشتملت الخاتمة على نتائج البحث وخلاصته.
