قبل نحو 2700 سنة، حين كانت الحضارة الإغريقية في أوجها، كتب الكاتب الإغريقي هو ميروس ملحمتين، أو قصيدتين، هما الإلياذة والأوديسة، والملحمتان ترويان قصة الحرب بين بلاد الإغريق وطروادة والتي وقعت قبل أن يولد هوميروس بنحو 500 عام. والملحمتان تستندان على تاريخ الإغريق وعلى الأساطير، كانت طروادة مدينة كبيرة مسورة. يروي هو ميروس كيف حاول الإغريق احتلال المدينة طوال عشر سنوات، ثم فكروا بخطة بارعة لغزو المدينة مستخدمين حصاناً خشبياً ضخماً.
كان الإغريق القدامى يتعبدون لإلهة عدة يسمونهم الخالدين. وقد بنوا لآلهتهم هياكل وقدموا لهم الأضاحي والهدايا من الفواكه وغيرها. في القصيدتين، نجد أن الآلهة الخطيرين يشعلون الحرب ويتدخلون في وضع خطة الحصان الخشبي، الإلياذة، والأوديسة، من أشهر الملاحم في العالم، هذا الكتاب يروي تفاصيل هذه المغامرة المشوقة التي يتفجر فيها الحب والكره والسلطان والانتقام، ويشترك فيها آلهة أسطوريون.
