لا شكَّ أنَّ العرب عبر تاريخهم الطويل، قد تميّزوا عن أُمم المعمورة بالإهتمام بأنسابهم، واعتنوا بأنساب خيولهم وإبلهم، وفاخر الشعراء بالقبيلة وقيمها، من فروسية وكرم ونخوة، وحفظ الأبناء للأجداد ذلك التراث، وقد عَدَّ النقاد معلقة عمرو بن كلثوم التغلبي قمة الفخر بذلك الموروث.
لقد رافق الإهتمام بالنسب عرب ما قبل الإسلام، التمسُّك بالقبيلة والدفاع عنها والذي أُطلق عليه (العصبية)، وبعد مجيء الإسلام استطاع النبي محمد (صلى الله عليه وسلم) أن يوحد القبائل خلف راية الدين الجديد، مع الإبقاء على الإنتماء للقبيلة وتهذيب العادات والقيم ونقلها من التعصُّب القبلي إلى روح الإيمان بالوحدة بين الجميع، مؤكداً على ضرورة معرفة النسب، حيث يقول: (تعلَّموا من أنسابكم ما تصلون به أرحامكم، فإنَّ صلة الرحم مثراة في المال، منسأة في الأثر).
وقد جاء في الأثر أنه صلوات الله عليه قد أرتجز: "أنا النبي لا كذب... أنا ابنُ عبد المطلب"... وبقي النسب عند العرب المسلمين طريقاً لصلة الرحم، وما يطلبه الخالق جلَّت قدرته من تشريع في الميراث والحلال والحرام في معاملات الزواج، وأحقية القربى في الصدقات، ولكن سيادة الحضارة وتباعد الأسر في القرون المتأخرة كاد أن يودي بهذا الإهتمام.
ومن هنا، برز العديد من الكُتّاب للتصدي إلى موضوع النسب، وكتبوا عن قبائلهم وأصولها وأماكن إنتشارها، من أجل الحفاظ على موروثها من الضياع وأنسابها من النسيان وذوبان أُسرها وأبنائها وإنتسابهم إلى غير نسبهم مما يجعلهم بعيدين عن أرحامهم وأقاربهم مهما تباعدوا.
ويعد هذا الكتاب إسهامة متواضعة في تعريف أبناء القبيلة وأجيالها القادمة بأهلهم وإنتمائهم.
