يعتبر كتاب "أسرار النطقاء" من أقدم المصنفات الإسماعيلية التي تبحث في قصص الأنبياء وأسرارهم العرفانية، وحكمهم التأويلية الباطنية المنبثقة من سلوكهم الديني والدنيوي، في إطار من الرموز والإشارات التأويلية التي اعتاد عليها حكماء الدعوة الإسماعيلية في كل تحركاتهم وتفكيرهم العلمي. يسرد المؤلف قصص الأنبياء كما روتها الكتب السماوية، ثم يعمد إلى تأويل تلك القصص باطنياً حيث يستعمل الرموز والمصطلحات الإسماعيلية ليؤكد على صحة تأويله الذي يقول بأنه أخذه عن الأئمة الهداة الأطهار الذين خصّهم الله بهذه الميزة باعتبارهم النواميس المكلفة من الله لقيادة البشرية إلى الخير والسعادة في الدارين. ويعتمد في أكثر أبحاثه على الآيات القرآنية والأحاديث الشريفة المروية عن الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم وعن الأئمة الأطهار.
وأول ما يتحدث المؤلف عن إبداع العقل وانبعاث النفس، وعن العالم التركيبي المجبول بالحركة والسكون، وعن العالم الأعلى الروحاني، ثم يتعرض لبدء الزمان من حركة الأفلاك والتراكيب، ويقول بأن الزمان ليس له ذات، ولا هو جوهر، بل هو بتقدير حركة الأفلاك فقط.
وهكذا يمضي في كتابه الذي يختمه بعد السرد والمناقشة بالردّ على الفرق الشيعية التي تنكر إمامة إسماعيل بن جعفر الصادق مقدماً الأدلة والأحاديث التي تدعم ما يذهب إليه. ولا شك بأن هذا الكتاب "سرائر وأسرار النطقاء" ذو فائدة جليلة لمن يرغب في معرفة آراء الإسماعيلية من قصص الأنبياء.
هذا الكتاب من أقدم مصادر الإسماعيلية التي تتناول تاريخ الأئمة المستورين، ومن أهم الكتب المذهبية التي أُلّفت للدفاع عن المذهب الإسماعيلي وأنصاره، كما يُعَدُّ بحق أحسن الكتب التي تمثل الأدب الإسماعيلي القديم اصدق تمثيل... وكما أنه يتناول بعض المبادئ الشيعية التي شرحها شرحاً وافياً. وهو من أهم المراجع التي تصدت لبحث تاريخ فرَق الشيعة
