تعد رواية "المئوي الذي هبط من النافذة واختفى" من روائع الأدب الإسكندنافي. لقد جاء اختيار مؤلفها الروائي يوناس يوناسون باعتراف النقاد، ذكياً، في اختياره لبطل عاش مئة عام بحلوها ومرها، والتصقت حياته بمئات الحوادث، ومن تلك الحوادث ما غير وجه التاريخ، مثل الثورات الروسية ضد حكم القياصرة، وظهور الإشتراكية اللينينية والحرب الكورية والحرب العالمية الثانية، وحتى حرب الشرق الأوسط.
تبدأ أولى مشاهد الرواية بقرار بطلها، "ألن كارلسون" الهرب من بيت المسنين الذي يقيم فيه في نفس يوم عيد ميلاده المئة، ومنذ اللحظة التي يهبط منها من نافذة غرفته تبدأ سلسلة من الأحداث المثيرة، حيث يلتقي كارلسون بأشخاص طريفين، ويشتبك مع رجال عصابات وشرطة وغير حق من حوادث، إلا أن الروائي يعود ليكشف البدايات الأولى لحياة بطله، لتجد أن أمه كافحت كثيراً لتعوله بعد سفر والده، وماتت بالسل تاركة ديوناً لدى تاجر في المقاطعة، ثم نقرأ عن حيوات كثيرة لرجال ونساء يظهرون ويختفون، وتفاصيل أخرى كان البطل قد لعب فيها ومن وراء الكواليس، أدواراً هامة أكثر درامية في التاريخ الحديث، حيث يتعقل الروائي بطله خلال المائة عام التي عاشها قبل أن ينتهي به المطاف إلى بيت المسنين، عبر ركام من الوقائع الروائية يكون فيها البطل وراء جملة من الأحداث التي غيرت وجه القرن، وعلى سبيل المثال، كان هو الذي حلّ معضلة الكتلة الحرجة في القنبلة الذرية، وهو الذي أنقذ حياة الجنرال فرانكو في الحرب الإسبانية، وهو الذي أفقد تشرشل من الإغتيال في إيران، وتسبب بموت ستالين، وكان السبب وراء منع قيام الحرب بين أميركا والإتحاد السوفيتي ودفعهما إلى انتهاج سياسة نزع الأسلحة النووية ومنع الإنتشار، وغير ذلك ... في هذه الرواية نجح يوناس يوناسون في ترجيح كفة الحقيقة التاريخية عبر الخيال الفني، كما نجح في جعل إبن المئة عام يفك الطوق والبداية من جديد، وهكذا ينبغي لكل واحد منا أن يفعل.
