وهؤلاء هم قادة الأمم الذين ينتشلون أمتهم المظلومة المحتلة من وهداتها، وينطلقون بها ليحرروها من أسر الكبت والفقر والجهل، وليطلعوها على آفاق أخرى وعوالم جديدة، وقد كان من أبرز هؤلاء في القرن العشرين، الزعيم الهندي جواهر لال نهرو بثورته وهدوئه، بخطواته الوثابة والبطيئة، حرًّا أو سجينًا، فحمل على عاتقه همًّا ضخمًا وأراد أن يبعث في الهند حياة جديدة ويجابه معها الاحتلال ويُكمل الطريق الذي بدأه زعيمها الروحي غاندي. فتحمل نهرو في سبيل ذلك الكثير فسجن طويلًا، وصودرت أمواله، وافتقر واستدان ولكنه استطاع أن يصمد إلى النهاية.
فكانت رحلة نهرو منذ طفولته رحلة إلى القيادة التي تفرض شعبيتها على الجميع بفعلها وجميل صنيعها، حتى اتجهت نحوه جميع الأنظار ينتظرون غوثه وإدارته ليتبعون وجهته. حول الرحلة من بدايتها إلى نهايتها تبسط المؤلفة الحديث عن حياة نهرو وسفره وسجنه والثمرة التي تركها يانعة حتى حصدت من بعده الهند كثيرًا من الخير.
