إن مما لا يخفى على أحد أن الإمام البخاري رحمه الله واحد من الجهابذة الذين حفظ الله تعالى بهم السنة، فهو أمير المؤمنين في الحديث، أجمعت الأمة على إمامته، واعتبار كتابه (الصحيح) أصح كتاب بعد كتاب الله تعالى
من هنا عني العلماء بترجمته وذكر أخباره، بل لقد أفرد كثير منهم ترجمته بكتب مستقلة، لكثرة أخباره، وشهرة فضائله.
ومن هؤلاء العلماء: الإمام العجلوني، فقد اقتفى طريقة من سبقه من الأئمة، ونسج على منوالهم، ونهل من علومهم وكتبهم عيون الأخبار، والتقط الجواهر والدرر فيما ندّ من أموره وندر، فجاء كتابه حافلاً غزيراً بمادته العلمية.
وقد قسمه المؤلف إلى أربعة أبواب:
الباب الأول: ذكر فيه مولد الإمام البخاري ونسبه ونشأته وغير ذلك من الفوائد النفيسة.
الباب الثاني: بيان رحلته، وشيوخه، ومن أخذ عنه من المشايخ والطالبين، وبيان قوة حفظه، وسيلان ذهنه، وثناء الناس عليه، وغير ذلك من المآثر والمناقب.
الباب الثالث: ذكر فيه ما ورد في أهل الحديث من الأحاديث والآثار.
الباب الرابع: عدّد فيه تصانيفه المفيدة، والتي بلغت أربعاً وعشرين مصنفاً، ثم بيّن اسم كتابه (الجامع الصحيح)، وسبب ترجيحه على غيره من التآليف، ثم سرد شارحيه وبلغ بهم السبعين، ثم عدّد أحاديثه، وتكلم عن تراجمه وأبوابه، وغير ذلك من أبحاث مفيدة.
وقد ذكر في هذه الأبواب مما ليس منها فصولاً وتنبيهات كثيرة لمناسبة واستطراد، كما حلّى الأبواب بالكثير من نظمه الرائق، ونظم غيره من العلماء.
