إن مهارات ماوراء المعرفة في مجال القراءة تتمركز في ثلاث مراحل هى: ماقبل عملية القراءة-أثناء عملية القراءة- مابعد عملية القراءة, حيث يوظف الطالب جميع مهارات ماوراء المعرفة في مجال القراءة وهي:القسم الأول (المهارات التنفيذية لما وراء المعرفة في مجال القراءة) ويضم (التنبؤ- التخطيط- الضبط- التقويم) القسم الثانى ويضم التقويم الذاتى للمعرفة بأبعاده الثلاثة (المعرفة التقريرية- المعرفة الإجرائية- المعرفة الشرطية) والإدارة الذاتية للمعرفة بأبعادها الخمسة (التخطيط- إدارة المعلومات- المراقبة الذاتية- تعديل الغموض- التقويم). وأنه بالتدريب علي هذه المهارات يتحسن أداء الطلاب في فهم القرائي. إن القارئ الجيد (الكفء) هو الذى يوظف مهارات ماوراء المعرفة في كل مرحلة من المراحل الثلاث .
وفي ضوء ما سبق عرفت الدراسة الحالية الوعي بمهارات ماوراء المعرفة في مجال القراءة إجرائيا بأنه وعى الطالب بالمهارات المعرفية الخاصة به في مجال القراءة ونواتجها ومايتصل بتلك المعرفة, والتنبؤ بالنتائج وقدرته علي وضع خطط محددة للوصول إلى أهدافه من القراءة, وتحديد الصعوبات التى قد تواجههه أثناء القراءة وطرق التغلب عليها, وكذلك اختيار الاستراتيجيات القرائية المناسبة وتعديلها أو التخلي عنها واختيار استراتيجيات جديدة, وقدرته علي مراجعة ذاته وتقويمها باستمرار, وذلك كما يظهر من خلال استجابات الطلاب علي عبارات المقياس المستخدم في الدراسة الحالية, وسوف تتناول الدراسة مهارات ماوراء مفهوما و قياسا, وكذلك علاقتها بالكفاءة اللغوية, بالإضافة إلى الإجراءات التجريبية للدراسة.
