يوضح أن التنمية والتطور في الغرب قاماً علي نهب ثروات العالم الثالث تاريخياً كما يحدد أن العوامل الثقافية التي سارت منذ القرن السادس عشر ليست لها خصوصية تميزها عن الثقافات الآخري مكنتها من تحقيق التقدم وبالتالي فليس بالضرورة توافرها في دول العالم الثالث لتصل هذه الدول إلي التنمية.
يظهر الكتاب الغرب من خلال تكتلاته الإقتصادية وفرضه لحضارته من خلال مايسمي بالنظام العالمي الجديد وأتهام كل من يحاول التحرر من قبضته بالإرهاب.
يرجع الكتاب فشل التنمية في السودان إلي عوامل عدة: أولاً - إنعزال وأنانية المتعلم السوداني وعدم مشاركة المواطنين في إتخاذ القرارات التنموية. ثانياً - عدم وجود مشروع حضاري فرض علي صانعي القرار أتباع المنهج الغربي للتنمية مما قاد لتبعية السودان. يوضح الكتاب آن النظام العسكوجبهوي الحالي أوجد مشروعاً حضارياً ولكنه أقامه علي إبعاد الآخر وقهره لهذا فشل في تحقيق شعاراته "نأكل مما نزرع ونلبس مما نصنع" بل علي العكس أصبح المواطن "يضحك مما يسمع" من خلال دراسة ميدانية وأعتماداً كذلك علي الأحصاءات الحكومية يوضح التدهور المريع الذي وصلت إلية الأوضاع الإقتصادية والإجتماعية في السودان أدت إلي نزوح السكان من الريف إلي المدينة ومن السودان إلي خارجه.
يوضح الكتاب كذلك أن التنوع الثقافي والعرقي في السودان مصدر قوة إذا هدف القائمون علي الأمر إلي المصلحة العامة بدلاً عن المصلحة الذاتية.
