في هذا الكتاب جمعت ما كتبته ونشرته في مختلف الصحف والمجلات على مدى سنوات ما قبل الثورة، منادياً فيه بالتغيير الثقافي وبتفعيل دور المؤسسات الثقافية، وبمواجهة أشكال الفساد في منظومة العمل الثقافي الرسمي، كاشفاً لملامح المشهد العام للثقافة قبل الثورة، ومتغلغلاً في ثناياه سابحاً عكس التيار نحو التغيير المأمول، ثم ألحقته بما كتبته قبل الثورة أيضاً، محاولاً تلمس ملامح مشروع متكامل للنهضة الثقافية، وشق الطريق لتحقيقه، وأتبعت هذين القسمين بما كتبته بعد قيام الثورة، حالماً ومحلللاً، ومتأملاً، وناقداً ومشاركاً في الفعل الثقافي الثوري على أرض الواقع، نحو تكاتف الجهود وتوافق الأفكار من أجل تحقيق الحلم بشقيه: الثقافة والتغيير.. والثقافة التي أعنيها هي ثقافة وطنية تهدف إلى بناء وعي الإنسان ووجدانه، وهي تضرب بجذور في تربة الهوية المصرية من ناحية، وتنفتح على العالم الخارجي بكل روافده العصرية بغير تزمت من ناحية أخرى.
