تأخذ الأحاديث والروايات التي تتعلق بظهور الإمام المهدي المنتظر حيزاً ليس بالقليل في كتب الحديث عند جميع الغرف والمذاهب الإسلامية، وهي بهذا تعكس موقعاُ عقائدياً ووجدانياُ متميزاُ لموضوعها من قبل المتحدثين عنها. وفي هذا الكتاب يرى الشيخ جلال الدين علي الصغير "أن المظلوب هو أن تأخذ حركة علامات الظهور دورها الموجه والراسم لمعالم مسار الحركة الرسالية في زمن غياب الإمام.. صلوات الله عليه..." والسعي لاكتشاف هذا المنهج وتحديد ملامحه وأهم مفرداته هو ما يتوقف عنده المؤلف في هذا العمل بجزئيه (الأول والثاني) والذي اعتبره "بحث في فقه الدلالة والسلوك" وفيه يتحدث عن أهداف علامات الظهور، وآليات التعامل معها، ويشير إلى استحقاقات الظهور وكيفية التعامل مع هذه الاستحقاقات، ويتطرق أيضاً إلى سبل الإعداد لعالم الظهور، وعلاقة زمننا المعاصر بعالم الظهور، فاسحاً المجال للتأمل فيها، أما أهم ما لحظَه المؤلف "وجود ارتباط ما بين حركة الهدى المعاصرة مع أولويات الحركة المهدوية، ولذلك لم نفوت الفرصة –والكلام للمؤلف- دون التحدث عن هذه الأولويات..." وختم حديثه في ظاهرة يرى أنها من المعالم الأساسية في هذا المنهج" وهي ظاهرة الارتباط العضوي ما بين القضية المهدوية والعراق (...) وأعني بذلك مسألة الزمان الطويل الذي مرَت وتمرَ به هذه الحركة المباركة، وما تكتنف هذه المسألة من شبهات، وما تولَده من عقد وصعوبات".
