"من هو؟ وأرخت على حيرة الروح أمي السؤال. وراحت تفتش عيني عنه، وتبحث عن ظله في ثيابي وتوغل في لومي وعتابي وتسألني: من هو؟ وداريت صحتي، وغالبت دمعي، وآليت ألا أقول لها من هو. من هو؟ وحلق حولي الضباب، وأشعلني البرق، حلت بي النار.. ماد بي الملكوت... ودارت بي الريح... هز دمي رعشة واضطراب. وآليت ألا أقول لها من هو. لو أني يا أمّ بحت لما بقي الكون سرّي ولي فيه هذا السنى والألق. لما كنت أطلق من راحتيّ طيوراً من النار تزرع هذي السما بالأرق. لما كان لي كل هذا الفضاء، لما حلق القلب في ملكوت المساء، وطاف يوزع أحلامه في قلق. لو أني يا أم بحت، لحطًّ على شعري النجم في ألم واحتراق. هو البحر فيه المدى غامرٌ، وبه القلب يخفق في منتهاه. هو النار إن مس روحي. احترقت مطهّره في بهاه. له الريح يا أم. لا تفلت الريح من خيله أو خطاه. له البرق يوقظ عتم الطريق به وهو ليلاً عصاه. من هو؟ وخفت... ارتجفت.. صمتُ.. وأغمضت عيني حتى أراه".
