"عقد الإيجار" كتاب في القانون يسدّ فراغاً في هذا الموضع من التآليف القانونية. فقد ظهرت كتب قيمة في شرح معظم أجزاء القانون المدني المصري، ولم يكد يبقَ إلا الإيجار بنوعيه: إيجار الأشياء وإيجار المعامل. فتولى الدكتور عبد الرزاق أحمد السنهوري في كتابه هذا شرح إيجار الأشياء، مستبقياً ما يسمى "بإيجار المعامل" إلى مؤلف آخر.
تناول الدكتور السنهوري شرح إيجار الأشياء بشيء من الإسهاب والتفصيل ومفسحاً في المجال. أما مقارنة ما ورد في الشرائع السماوية في هذا المجال، وحتى لا يقتصر البحث على الوجهة العلمية، تناول القانوني الدكتور السنهوري في بحثه هذا الناحية العملية في إيجار الأشياء، وهذه الناحية تلمسها في قضاء المحاكم، مفسحاً المجال للقضاء المصري والقضاء الفرنسي لما يمثل القانون من مادة حية غذاؤها التطبيق العملي. إلى جانب ذلك كان للقضاء المختلط في هذا البحث نصيب أوفر من القضاء الأهلي، حيث تناوله المؤلف بكثير من التفصيل الذي استدعى منه العودة إلى مراجع كثيرة، لذا لم يغفل المؤلف في الحواشي من الإشارة إلى المراجع التي يحتاج إليها الباحث، إذا أراد التعمّق في موضوع من الموضوعات، مردفاً ذلك بأجزاء من النصوص القانونية من أهلية ومختلطة وفرنسية وشرعية، معتمداً في الشريعة الإسلامية على كتاب مرشد الحيوان.
