إن الباحث فى حياة الشعوب و تاريخ الحضارات تستوقفه تساؤلات مهمة فى هذا المجال، وقد تكون اجابتها محاولة لفهم بعض القضايا المعاصرة، فهناك اسئلة تتعلق بكيقية نشأة المجتمعات الاسلامية فى بيئات لم تكن مسلمة، و اخرى تتعلق بطبيعة التفاعلات الاجتماعية بين العناصر السكانية التى استوطنت تلك المجتمعات، و اسئلة تتعلق بحقيقة الصراع بين فئات المجتمع و العوامل المؤثرة فى هذا الصراع. ثم هل هناك حقا ما يسمى ب "صراع الحضارات"؟
ان هذا الكتاب هو محاولة للوصول الى اجابات مقنعة على تلك الاسئلة، ففيه تناولت قصة الاسلام و حضارته فى اقليم مهم من الاقاليم التى اسهمت فى بناء صرح الحضارة الاسلامية، إقليم الاهواز. وقد كان من المهم ان امهد الموضوع بالحديث عن التاريخ السياس و الحضارى للاهواز منذ عهد العيلاميين وحتى الفتح الاسلامى، و حاولت قدر جهدى حسم موضوع تسمية الاهواز، وهو موضوع يوليه البعض حاليا اهمية كبيرة، معتبرا اياه جزءا من اجزاء الصراع العربي الفارسي, و الذى ازداد سخونة من تطورات المشهد على ساحة العزة السورية. وفى مجال االتاريخ السياسي عرضت لكيفية فتح الاهواز، كما سرت مع هذا التاريخ حتى نهاية القرن الثالث الهجرى، و الاقع ان قراءة هذا التاريخ قراءة متأنية قد يساعد فى فهم طبيعة و ابعاد حلقة مهمة من حلقات الصراع بين العراق وإيران او قل بين العرب و الفرس، فقد اثار انتباهى اثناء تحليل التاريخ السياسي للاهواز، متخذة منها قاعدة امينة و عمقا استراتيجيا، فلعل البعد الجغرافى اذا قد يكون احد عوامل هذا الصراع المعقد، فالمنطقة تقع الى الجنوب الشرقى من العراق حيث لا توجد حدود بينها وبين البصرة، مما يرشحها حقا لان تكون حدودا ملتهبة. ومن هنا فإننى ازعم من خلال معطيات التاريخ و حقائق الجغرافية ان ادوار الصراع فى ذلك المنطقة لن تنتهى على الامد القريب، خاصة فى ظل الاكتشافات البترولية و الشحن المذهبى الزائد الذى اطل براسه على مسرح الاحداث.
