برزت في أواخر القرن التاسع عشر ظاهرتان خطرتان على كيان الإمبراطورية العثمانية الأولى تتمثل في تعرض النظام العثماني السياسي الإسلامي إلى حالة من الفوضى والانهيار الداخلي، والثانية تتمثل في احتدام الصراع السياسي الأوروبي لأحكام السيطرة على أوروبا ومن خلالها تتم عملية تعميم السيطرة على العالم وبضمه العالم العربي/الإسلامي. وقد تمكنت الحرب العالمية الأولى من حسم هذا الصراع الداخلي الأوروبي لصالح الجبهة البريطانية الفرنسية وانتقلت آسيا العربية من التبعية للدولة العثمانية إلى التبعية السياسية للحكم الأوروبي.
وبانتهاء الحرب العالمية الثانية انتهى نفوذ أوروبا في أرض العرض، وبرزت أمريكا كقوة هائلة من جهة وكوريث شرعي لأوروبا من جهة أخرى لذلك أصبح النظام السياسي العربي بشكل آلي تحت أحكام هذا القيد الجديد. وظهر التحالف الأمريكي الصهيوني في تلك المرحلة والذي أخذ أبعاداً جديدة تتسم بتصاعد التأثير السياسي الأمريكي على العرب حيث أصبح النظام السياسي العربي أكثر التصاقاً بالاستراتيجية الأمريكية.
وفي هذا الكتاب يقدم المؤلفان عرضاً للجذور التاريخية للازمة التي يعانيها النظام السياسي العربي منذ أواخر القرن التاسع عشر وحتى يومنا هذا وهو يشكل مساهمة في معالجة الوضع السياسي العربي الراهن.
