هذا الكتاب الذي يجمع بين دراسات منشورة في مجلات أكاديمية ومراجعات لكتب صدرت بالبوسنوية، يقدّم مقاربة متكاملة لما تعنيه "البوسنة" التي أصبحت تتميز بالعديد من الخصائص نتيجةً للحكم العثماني الطويل. فقد كانت سراييفو مجرد قرية عندما وصل العثمانيون إلى خاصرة البوسنة (1450م)، وتحوّلت إلى بلدة بفضل الوقف الأول الذي أسّسه الحاكم العثماني عيسى بك واكتمل توثيقه في عام 1462م، أي مع اكتمال الفتح العثماني للبوسنة.
وإلى جانب عيسى بك الذي يشار إليه بكونه "مؤسس سراييفو" بفضل الوقف الذي أقامه، فإنّ سراييفو ترتبط عادةً باسم الوالي خسرو بك الذي أقام أوقافاً ضخمة حملت سراييفو إلى "عصرها الذهبي" في القرن السادس عشر، وما تزال روحه حاضرة في المدينة القديمة عبر المنشآت التي أنشأها وما تزال تشهد على ذلك العصر، ومن أبرزها جامع خسرو بك، ومدرسة الغازي خسرو بك، ومكتبة الغازي خسرو بك.
ولكن "العصر الذهبي" لا يقتصر على المنشآت في سراييفو، بل يمتدّ ليشمل روح التعايش التي جمعت بين سكانها المسلمين والمسيحيين واليهود حتى أصبحت هذه المدينة تُعرف بـ"القدس الأوروبيّة"...
