تدور الرواية حول "دونالد تيلمان" وعالم جينات، في التاسعة والثلاثين من عمره، طويل،رشيق،ذكي،صاحب منصب مرموق نسبيا،ودخل فوق المتوسطي يوفره منصبه كأستاذ في الجامعة ومنطقي ان يكون جذابا في قطاع عريض من الفتيات والسيدات. "دون" يبحث عن زوجة لكنه لايبحث عنها بالطريقة المتعارف عليها خصوصا بعد ان فشلت كل الطرق المنطقية في عثوره علي زوجة تناسبة. جرب العديد من اللقاءات التي انتهت نهايات مثل محاولته إقناع رفيقة بان كل نكهات الايس كريم لا فرق بينها في الطعم قرر "دون" ان يتوقف عن البحث عن زوجة عن طريق المواعدات التي يدبرها له صديقة وزوجته وبدأ في عمل استبيان به العديد من الاسئلة الغربية التي ستحدد نتيجتة بدقة من تصلح زوجة له.
حتي قابل "روزي" من هي "روزي" تلك الفتاة التي ظهرت في عالمة فجاة وقلبته رأسا علي عقب عالمه المنظم المرتب ذو المواعيد الدقيقة دخلت حياته وسببت الارتباك بها لم تعجبه تلك الفتاه الفوضوية التي تسخر من شخصيته المنظمة ومن وجبة الإستاكوزا التي ياكلها كل يوم ثلاثاء بانتظام لكن لو انها لم تعجبه ، لماذا اذا انقلب مشروعه فجأه من مشروع البحث عن زوجه الي مشروع "روزي"؟
