حظيت العتبات النصية بإهتمام بالغ في الدراسات النقدية الحديثة بوصفها من المفاهيم النقدية الحديثة في الدرس النقدي العربي المعاصر فضلاً عن الرغبة لدى النقاد في التفاعل مع مستجدات النظريات النقدية الحديثة والإستفادة من منجز النقد الغربي الذي اهتم بالعتبات النصية ضمن الدراسات الموسعة لمفهوم النص في النقد الغربي البنيوي وإتجاهات ما بعد البنيوية كالسيميائية والتداولية وما أقرته نظريات القراءة والتلقي وما آلت إليه من توصيفات جديدة للنص تبلور فيها مفهوم التفاعل النصي أو التناص وكان التطور في فهم النص والتفاعل النصي مناسبة أعمق لتحقيق النظر للنص بكونه فضاءً، ومن ثم جاء الإلتفات إلى العتبات النصية وظهور مفهوم الشعرية على يد تودروف وجوليا كريستفيا، ثم جينيت الذي قدّم تصوراً شاملاً حول مفهوم التناص ضمن مقترحاته النظرية بخصوص موضوع الشعرية الذي كان بمثابة هاجسه الفكري في سياق التحول النقدي الجديد الذي تخلى فيه عن مفهوم النص المغلق إلى مفهوم معمارية النص الذي يعني به مجموع الخصائص العامة أو المتعالية التي ينتمي إليها كل نص على حدة مما أدى إلى ظهور مصطلح (المتعاليات النصية) الذي يضم بدوره مصطلح (الموازي النصي) الذي ترجم إلى (العتبات النصية) إذ نبه جينيت إلى قدرة النص على إقامة علاقات مع النصوص المحيطة به أو النصوص المتعالية مما أحدث تطوراً في الرؤية النقدية للنص وأسهم في تقديم موضوعات جديدة لم يهتم النقد بها سابقاً.
