عندما تمر مجموعة بشرية بمرحلة رعب تستمر زمنًا طويلا، يلجأ الأفراد إلى أحلام اليقظة أو الذكريات، هربًا من الواقع، فتنشط الذاكرة لتبث صورًا ومشاهد مستوحاة من الماضي البعيد أو القريب، وتنشط معها المخيلة التي تحاول إضفاء ألوان براقة زاهية على الصور والمشاهد، ومن جهة أخرى ترسم خططًا فنطازية للخلاص والنجاة من شرك الواقع.. فتتشابك صور الذاكرة مع الخيالات الغربية في مزيج غامض، ويصبح أكثر غموضا وتعقيدًا حين تذهب الذاكرة بعيدًا نحو حكايات التأريخ وقصص الأولين.
هذه الرواية تلقي أضواء كاشفة على ذلك الغموض.. ورغم أنها أضواء متقطعة مثل وميض البرق، إلا أنها تنير أبعد مناطق النفس البشرية عتمة وظلامًا، وتكشف بتلقائية وعفوية اضطراب النفوس البشرية بين حالات البؤس والضعف أو حالات القوة والجبروت..
ورغم جدية الأحداث وخطورتها، ترسم الرواية خلفيات كاركتيرية ساخرة تتحدى جدية الأوضاع وعنف الأحداث.. وأبعد من ذلك..
