منذ روايته الأولى "الدومينو"، لم يتوقّف الروائي سعد سعيد عن التجريب، فمع كل عمل يقترح بنية جديدة ولغة مختلفة، يتّضح هذا في "خلدولوجيا" و"فيرجواليه"، ومن بعدهما "ثلاث عشرة ليلة وليلة" و"هسيس اليمام"، وروايته ما قبل الأخيرة "إنسانزم"... إلا أنه في عمله الجديد (صوت خافت جداً) يدخلنا إلى عالم جديد تماماً، لغةً وبناءً، في سعي منه للوصول إلى قارئ مختلف، وناقد يُدرك إختلاف سعيد مع كل عمل.
في (صوت خافت جداً) يثبت سعيد بأنه يميل إلى أن يقف إلى جانب الضعفاء، وهل هناك أضعف من شابّة تعاني من ضنك وإملاق في مجتمع لا يأبه كثيراً لحاجات إناثه وهو في ظروفه الطبيعية، فكيف إن كان يعيش في ظل ظروف غير طبيعية؟ مجتمع إن أخبرته بأن للنساء فيه حقوقاً، فإنه سيستنكر الفكرة ويعترض.
سعد سعيد استجمع أدواته الفنية والسردية ليخوض مغامرة أخرى، بطلتها أنثى... هذه المرة فتاة عراقية تصرخ طوال الوقت، لكن لا أحد يسمع لها!...
رواية تجري أحداثها على خلفية من صور مختلفة لما يحدث في العراق الآن، رواية تستحق أن تُقرأ بتمعّن عسى أن يصلنا صوت كاتبها وهو يقول: أنا لا أميل إلى ملامسة أبواب المسكوت عنه فحسب، بل أنا هنا لإقتحامها وفضح ما وراءها.
