يعتبر الدعاء ضرورة طبيعية من ضرورات الحياة البشرية تستثيره المواقف الصعبة والنكبات التي تلم بالإنسان بين الحين والآخر فيرى فيه المنقذ من أزماته والنجاة من آلامه وآهاته، وتنبع ضرورته من جانب الإنابة والتضرع إلى الخالق وطلب الدعم الإلهي في أوقات الشدة والرخاء والسراء والضراء على حد سواء فهو تعبير طبيعي عن إحساس نفسي وشعور حي لدى الإنسان، الذي يدرك وجود حقيقتين في حياته: الله، والإنسان، وبعد هذا وذاك فالدعاء يعتبر أول علاقة ربطت العبد بالخالق سبحانه وتعالى على وجه الأرض وذلك حينما دعا آدم عليه السلام ربه بكلمات علمهن الله تعالى إياه فتاب عليه وغفر له خطيئته، وهنا يبرز دور العبد في التوسل بالدعاء والتقرب به لنيل الرحمة الإلهية والفوز بالسعادة الأبدية.
