يمهد المؤلف في الجزء الأول لموضوع الكتاب بمقدمة في الباب الأول في أصول السلوك الجماعي والاجتماعي وسيكولوجية الاتجاهات والقيم والرأي العام. وفي الباب الثاني يناقش المؤلف الأبعاد الهامة لتشخيص وتفهم الجماعة أو المنظمة: الهدف الجماعي وكيف تتحرك الجماعة نحوه، ضغوط الحماية ومعاييرها، وكيف تتخذ الجماعة قرارها، تماسك الجماعة وانقسامها والتعلم الجماعي، بناء الجماعة وتنظيمها، القيادة: نظرياتها وأنواعها.
وفي الباب الثالث يناقش المؤلف مناهج البحث وأدواته: الملاحظة والأساليب الإسقاطية والسوسيومترية والسيكودراماتيكية، وقياس الاتجاهات والقيم والرأي العام. ثم يقدم المؤلف في الباب الرابع دراسة مقارنة في النظريات: المجالية، السوسيومترية، التفاعلية، التحليل النفسي، منهج التحليل العاملي، نظرية الدور، النظرية المعرفية السلوكية ومنهج النظم، ويختتم بتقديم وجهة نظر.
ويخصص الجزء الثاني في الباب الخامس، عشرة فصول لمناقشة التطبيقات في مجالات الدعاية والإعلام والعلاقات العامة؟ اختيار القادة وتدريبهم، تنمية المجتمع والخدمة الاجتماعية، التربية، السلوك الاقتصادي والسلوك السياسي، علم النفس البيتوي، التعصب والعدوان والعنف، السلوك التنظيمي والقيادة الإدارية.
