يمثل الكتاب منظوراً جديداً في التراجم الصوفية، إذ يتعامل مع سيدي أبي يزيد البسطامي وسيدي أبي القاسم الجنيد رضى الله عنهما كصاحبي خرقتين صوفيتين بالاستقلال، مثلهما في ذلك مثل غيرهما من مشايخ الخرق والطرق الصوفية، لذا لا يكتفي المؤلف المنتسب إلى الخرقتين الشريفتين بتتبع سندهما إلى سيدنا رسول الله (صلى الله عليه وسلم)، بل يؤرخ لرجال هذا السند وصولاً إليه هو، حيث تولى مشيخة الزاوية البسطامية بحلب، وكما يظهر لنا من تاريخ القدس في العصر المملوكي فقد كانت الزاوية البسطامية الأم بالقدس الشريف مشهورة عامرة، فالكتاب بهذا ينتهج منهجاً جديداً في الترجمة للشيخين الجليلين ويذكرنا وهو يترجم لمتأخري الخرقتين بجزء عزيز علينا من تاريخنا ومن أرض الإسلام الغراء ألا وهو القدس الشريف حيث ما زالت آثار الزاوية البسطامية قائمة شاهدة على إسلامية وعروبة الأرض التي بارك الله حولها.
