إنتهى القديس غريغوريوس الناريكي من تأليف "كتاب الصلوات" أو "كتاب "المراثي" في سنة 1002. ولكن هذا المؤلف لم يعرف بكامله، حتى سنة 1961، إلا عند الشعب الأرمني، فقد تغذى به طوال عشرة قرون. إنه يتضمن 95 صلاة غنية بقيمتها الروحية، تجمع بين سمو التصوف وروعة الشعر.
أراده الكاتب موجهاً "إلى جميع أجيال الجنس البشري العائش على الأرض… إلى سائر جماعات المسيحيين العديدن في العالم كله" (الصلاة الثالثة).
