إن أهم ما يشغل بال المسلم المخلص لدينه في كل عَصْرٍ ومِصْر هو قضايا البشرية بوجه عام، وقضايا الأمة الإسلامية بوجه خاص، ذلك لأن الله سبحانه وتعالى كلف المسلم أن يأخذ بمقادة البشرية، فيقودها إلى شاطئ الأمن والسلامة، وينقذها من مَهامِه الكفروبناء عليه بات من واجب المسلم أن يكون آمراً بالمعروف ناهياً عن المنكر فاتحاً عينيه دائماً على أوضاع العصر، يراقبها باهتمام بالغ ليقرَّ ما يوافق الشريعة الغراء، ويرفض ما يخالفها، ويتنافى مع أحكامها وآدابها. وحيث نيط بقسم الشريعة والدراسات الإسلامية في جامعة العلوم التطبيقية تدريس مجموعةٍ من المواد الاختيارية، ووكل إليه حرّية اختيار تلك المواد، فقد اقترح أعضاء هيئة التدريس في القسم تدريس مجموعة من المواد الاختيارية كان من بينها مادة "الإسلام وقضايا العصر". ولما كان لكل عصر قضاياه التي تغلب عليها سماته، وتنطبع بطابعه، فإن بعض القضايا ليست خاضعة لهذا المعيار، وإنما تظل قضايا لكل عصر ومصر، تحتاج إلى معالجة وبيان، ونقد، وتقويم وقد اخترنا مجموعة من هذه القضايا التي واكبت الإنسان أزماناً، وستظل تواكبه، وتُعَدُّ همَّاً شاغلاً بال المخلصين من أبنائه ينبغي عليهم معالجتها وتعديل مسارها والقضاء نهائياً على بعضها. ولقد رتبنا هذه القضايا حسب الأهمية، واعتبار ما بينها من تلاحم، وترابط. لنفتح عين الدارس على أن بعضها ناشئ عن البعض الآخر، ومترتب عليه.
وبما أن أي مجموعة من الموضوعات التي ينتظمها سلك واحد من العلائق، والروابط لا يمكن وضعها جميعاً في كفتي ميزان متعادلتين إذ أن فيها الأهم والمهم فقد أخذنا ذلك بعين الاعتبار، منزلين هذه الموضوعات منزلتها فرتبنا هذه المواضيع على النحو التالي:
1- حقوق المرأة ومسؤوليتها.
2- الصهيونية.
3- العَلْمانية.
4- الديمقراطية.
5- وسطية الإسلام وذم الغلوّ والتطرف.
6- موقف الإسلام من غير المسلمين.
7- البنوك الإسلامية.
8- التأمين.
9- الشرعية الدولية .
