ليس غريباً أن يتصدى باحث محقق مثل العلامة الشهيد السيد حسن القبانجي للكتابة عن الحكمة والحكماء على مستوى العرض التاريخي وعلى مستوى العرض العلمي، فمعاصرته لعدد من الحكماء والفلاسفة في النجف الأشرف، وعشقه للإمام علي رضي الله عنه سيد الحكماء، وبحوثه عن متنوعات من حِكَم الإمام علي رضي الله عنه كانت عوامل دفعته للكتابة عن الحكمة والحكماء.
وفي هذا الكتاب يحيط المؤلف القبانجي بما ورد في كتب العرب من تقسيم الحكمة، وأحوال دخولها عند العرب وما اختلف المتأخرون من أقسامها وأسمائها وسائر ما يتعلق بعلم الحكمة ومعانيها وآدابها وعلمائها من المسلمين والفلاسفة العرب والعجم. فضلاً عن قبسات من حِكَم أمير المؤمنين علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه وآل البيت عليهم السلام، وما ورد في كتاب (فلاسفة الشيعة) لعباس إقبال الآشتياني ومؤلفات عدة في مواضيع أخرى مختلفة متصلة بعلم الحكمة مثل رسائل (إخوان الصفا) التي اشتهر أعضاؤها بالآراء العلمية الحرة؛ وبفلسفتهم الأخلاقية وعلومهم في النجوم والأفلاك وحركات الكواكب وغيرها. وأما (حكمة الإشراق) فيعدها المؤلف من العلوم الفلسفية التي هي بمنزلة التصوف من العلوم الإسلامية، كما أن الحكمة الطبيعية والإلهية منها بمنزلة الكلام ... وفلسفات أخرى مع المناقشة والتحليل.
