أما عن موضوعات هذا الكتاب على الجملة، فيمكن إيجازها فى أننا سنتناول أولاً التعريف بمخطوطة الكتاب ووصفها فيما عنوناه بعنوان "بين يدى الكتاب" فى محاولة التعريف من جانبنا بالمخطوطة التى بين أيدنا، ومحاولة درسها والتعليق عليها فى إطار ما تسنى لنا الوقوف عليه من النسخ التى توافرت لنا فى تحقيقها، ثم نقدم فى إيجاز سيرة الإمام أبى القاسم الجنيد مؤلف الكتاب كتاب "السر فى أنفاس الصوفية"، وآثاره الفكرية والمعرفية، لتجئ من بعد الدراسة المتناولة من خلال "علم الإشارة الصوفية"، فتعطى صورة عامة وواضحة أمام القارئ بإنفراد القوم بعلم خاص بهم تفردوا فيه حقيقة، وتميزوا عن سواهم بمعطياته الرمزية هو "علم الإشارة الصوفية" يصدر عن الحال، ونختم بدراسة مطولة عن "مراقبة الأنفاس" وآثارها فى التصوف على التعميم.
وهاتان الدراستان - "علم الإشارة الصوفية" و "مراقبة الأنفاس" - هما من موحيات كتاب "السر فى أنفاس الصوفية" لأبى القاسم الجنيد على وجه الخصوص، اقتضتهما ضرورة النظر العميق فى إشارات هذا الكتاب.
ما من شك فى أن هذا الكتاب عندى ليؤسس "لعلم الإشارة الصوفية" فى أعز ما تجود به تجارب العارفين وما تنجم عنه خبراتهم الروحية، بمقدار ما يجعل لمراقبة الأنفاس مصدراً تتوارد عليه سائر الموضوعات الصوفية على اختلاف الرأى فيها واختلاف الرؤية اختلافاً يرتد إلى باطن القلب وبؤرة الشعور. فى عشرة موضوعات رئيسة فى التصوف تجئ فيها إشارة الصوفية الأول أسراراً اعتادوا أن يلقونها إلقاءاً سابحاً فى لغة خاصة خصوصية أصحابها، بعيدة عن التصريح المباشر، غارقة فى الرمز الذوقى الذى تجيزة لغة العارف ولا تنقيه، ويذاق ذوقاً فى عالم الشواهد الروحية.
وكل موضوع من الموضوعات العشرة - رغم إستقلاله ونفرده وتميزه - يؤدى إلى الآخر.
