يعرف اللحام بأنه عملية الحصول على وصلات غير قابلة للفك عن طريق إقامة الروابط بين ذرات الأجزاء الملحمة، وذلك بتسخينها أو بتشوهها تشوهاً لدناً أو بالتأثير المشترك لهذا وذاك، وبتعلق هذا التعريف لعملية اللحام بالمعادن وبالمواد غير المعدنية (البلاستيك، الزجاج وغيره) أو باقتران النوعين. ويدور موضوع الكتاب حول اللحام بالقوس الكهربائي وبالغاز، وقد قدم المؤلف أولاً معلومات عن اللحام والوصلات، ثم تحدث عن تجهيزات موقع اللحام القوسي وعن تكنولوجيا اللحام القوسي اليدوي عند لحام الفولاذ المنخفض السبائكية ليتناول بعد ذلك الحديث حول أسس تكنولوجيا اللحام بالغاز، والتشوهات والإجهادات في اللحام، وحول الرقابة بالكشف الخارجي وبالقياسات.
ومن ثم انتقل إلى محور آخر وهو أجهزة وتكنولوجيا قص المعادن بالأوكسجين وتجهيزات وتكنولوجيا القص بالأوكسجين مع استخدام المسحوق المصهور والقص بالقوس البلازمي والأنواع الأخرى للقص الحراري، والقوس الكهربائي واستخدامه في اللحام، وأسس العمليات الميتالدرجية في اللحام القوسي ليبين بعد ذلك كيفية تبيين الخواص الميكانيكية وبنية المعدن في الوصلات اللحامية، ومن ثم كيفية اللحام اليدوي القوسي والغازي للفولاذ الكربوني والفولاذ السبائكي، واللحام الغازي والقوسي لحديد الزهر. وانتقل بعد ذلك للحديث عن اللحام اليدوي القوسي والغازي للمعادن غير الحديدية وسبائكها، وعن لحام التعبئة على المعادن، مبيناً أنواع الخاصة للحام القوسي اليدوي العالي الإنتاجية، ومنابع تغذية قوس اللحام، متناولاً الحديث عن معدات وتكنولوجيا اللحام القوسي النص أوتوماتي بالإلكترو المنصهر(المستهلك) وعن معدات وتكنولوجيا اللحام اليدوي بالإكترو تنجستيني في جو من الغاز الخامل، وعن خصائص اللحام القوسي اليدوي والنصف أوتوماتي لبعض أنواع المنشآت، وعيوب الوصلات اللحامية وكيفية إصلاحها، مفرزا الصفحات الأخيرة من الكتاب للحديث عن حماية العمل والأمن ضد الحرائق في المصانع، والأنواع غير التحطيمية لرقابة جودة المنتجات والوصلات اللحامية، ومعدلات أعمال اللحام...
