لما انتشر الإسلام في ربوع المعمورة، وخالط العرب العجم فسدت السليقة العربية، وأخذ اللحن يدب إلى الألسنة دبيبًا، هب المخلصون للغة القرآن الكريم إلى التفكير في مدافعة هذا اللحن، ووقف تياره، فهدوا إلى وضع قواعد النحو، لتعصم الألسنة من الزلل، وتمكن غير العربي من التحدث بالفصحى، فقد بذر "سيبويه" نواة "علم أصول النحو" في كتابه فكانت تظهر جمل منه خلال سطوره وأبحاثه، إلى أن جاء "ابن جنى" فحشا في كتابه "الخصائص" كما كبيرًا من موضوعات هذا الفن.
ثم ظهر "أبو البركات الأنباري" وجمع ذلك في كتاب سماه، "لمع الأدلة في علم أصول النحو"، ثم بعد فترة من الزمن جاء شيخ الإسلام الحافظ بحر العربية "أبو الفضل جلا الدين عبد الرحمن السيوطي" المولود سنة 849هـ، والمتوفي سنة 911هـ، فكتب كتابًا سماه "الاقتراح في أصول النحو وجدله" مستفيدًا مادة بحثه ممن تقدموه من الذين كتبوا في هذا الفن وبخاصة "ابن جنى" و "ابن الأنباري"، ولم تقف همة "السيوطي" عند جمع المادة، بل صال وجال في مباحث الكتاب وتوصل باستقرائها إلى أبحاث أنيقة، وأنظار دقيقة، وتقريرات رائقة، وتوجيهات فائقة، لها أوثق الصلة بموضوعات "النحو العربي" باختصار مفيد، فجاء كتابه جامعًا لأصول النحو، شاملًا لأنواعها، دقيقًا في كتبها ومباحثها، مكتملًا لما رسمه في صورة منهجها.
وقد اتبعت في إخراج نصه قواعد التحقيق المعروفة عند شيوخ الصنعة، ولما كان كتاب "الاقتراح" مجملًا في موضوعاته، غامضًا - أحيانًا - في معنى عباراته، قاصرًا على تجلية طرف من قواعده، قصدت بالشرح مجمله، ووضحت غامضة، وثبت بالدليل آراءه، وجليت بالمثال والشاهد قواعده، إلى غير ذلك مما وفقني الله - تعالى - إليه، من شرح النص وتوضيحه، وسميته "الإصباح في شرح الاقتراح"، وقمت بعد هذه المقدمة بكتابة التمهيد ذكرت فيه أولية أصول النحو، ثم قسمت عملي إلى قسمين:-
القسم الأول: الدراسة، ويشتمل على بابين: الباب الأول: السيوطي (حياته - وعمله)، الباب الثاني: منهج السيوطي في كتابه (الاقتراح).
القسم الثاني: النص المحقق مع الشرح، وختمته بالفهارس التفصيلية تحت عنوان (المحتوى).
