التربية هي خلق حالة من التعويد على سلوك معين وقد يكون هذا السلوك جيداً فتكون التربية صالحة، وقد يكون السلوك شاذّاً سيئاً فتكون التربية طالحة. والتربية الصالحة ترويض للنفس الأمّارة بالسوء أو إنّها كبح للميول الفاجرة للنفس فتخلق إنساناً سويّاً قادراً على التمييز بين الخطأ والصواب، كما أنّه يكون قادراً على كبح جماح شهواته لعلمه أنّها تؤدي إلى الضياع والفشل في الحياة الدنيا وإلى الخلود في العذاب في الآخرة. ولعل أول نتائج هذه التربية وثمارها هو برّ الوالدين من قبل الأبناء لعلمهم وإيمانهم بأنّ البرّ هو مفتاح الفلاح. أمّا التربية الطالحة فغنها تدفع النفس تدريجياً نحو فجورها دون تقواها وذلك بسبب الإهمال والتضييع وعدم المبالاة في توجيه الولد وتصحيح أخطائه؛ بل أحياناً يجد تشجيعاً على شِيَن أفعاله بحجة أنّه لايزال صغيراً ولا يفهم ما يفعل دون التفكير ولو للحظة بتعليمه ما يجب أن يفعل. وهذا النوع من التربية يجعل ذلك الطفل لا يعتبر أن الخطأ يجب أن لا يُرتكب حتى لو أنّه يميز هذا جيداً بأنّه خطأ لأنه اعتاد على ارتكابه دون أن يلفت أحد انتباهه إلى ضرورة تجنبه. وأول نتائج هذا النوع من التربية عقوق الأبوين إذ أنّه وكما ستبيّن هذه الدراسة، في مراحله المختلفة يجب أن يعوّد على طاعة الأبوين بطرق مختلفة وبحسب كل مرحلة على حدة. من هُنا تبرز أهمية التربية السليمة والتي يجب أن تكون على أسس سليمة لتخلق إنساناً ناضجاً واثقاً. وهذه الأسس لا يمكن أن تكون سليمة إلّا باتباع القرآن الكريم والسنة النبوية الحكيمة ليُحظى المسلم برعاية الله.
من هُنا تأتي أهميّة هذا الكتاب الذي يمثّل دروساً تربوية من وحي السنة النبوية... وذلك انطلاقاً من حديث محمد (صلى الله عليه وسلم): "الولد سيّد سبع سنين، وعبد سبع سنين، ووزير سبع سنين، فإن رضيت خلائقه لإحدى وعشرين، وإلّا فاضرب على جنبه، فقد أُعذرت إلى الله فيه" وقد ذكر الحديث بصور أخرى وجميعها تحمل نفس المعنى. من هذا المنطلق ومن رغبة جادة في نشر الأفكار العلمية التي تنطوي عليها السنّة النبوية الشريفة، جاء هذا البحث، السهل في الأسلوب والطرح على إعطاء دليل واضح حول كل استنتاج توصلت إليه الكاتبة من خلال البحث في الحديث الشريف.
