مواليد مصياف(سورية) عام 1948.اجازة في اللغة الانكليزية وادابها من جامعة دمشق عام 1972 .عمل في التدريس في محافظة حماه(سورية) وصنعاء(اليمن).عمل كذلك بقسم الترجمة بصحيفة الثورة الدمشقية.له ثلاث مجموعات قصصية وهي:قبعة زرقاء -صدرت عن اتحاد الكتاب العرب بدمشق عام 1996.ثم اغلق الباب-دار اسكندرون بدمشق عام 2003.في انتظار امير الطرافة-دار اسكندرون بدمشق عام 2005.كما ساهم في ثلاث مجموعات قصصية مشتركة وهي قصة التسعينات في سورية(اعداد د احمد جاسم الحسين) قصص مدينتين(اعداد سامر الشمالي و د.
منذر العقاد)وكذلك مجموعة وجوه ومرايا(اعداد سامر الشمالي) .عضو اتحاد الكتاب العرب.
كان له نصيب في الفوز بمسابقات محلية وعربية في القصة القصيرة منها:اتحاد الكتاب بحماه-البتاني-منتدى غسان كنفاني-جريدة اخبار الادب القاهريةونقابة المعلمين بسورية

بعد مجموعته قبعة زرقاء الصادرة عن اتحاد الكتاب العرب عام 1995 يتابع القاص محمد أبو حمود مسيرته في إبداع ما يمكن تسميته بالقصة الذكية. فقصص هذه المجموعة تكرس المقولة النقدية التي ترى علاقة الأدب بالواقع كعلاقة الخمر بالعنب. وذلك عبر بناء شخصيات وأحداث: متخيلة في مظهرها, وواقعية مرة في دلالتها, ومما يزيد متعة القراءة، السرد الساخر الذي يوظفه الكاتب ببراعة. ويسرد الكاتب القصص التالية: بين الفاعل والمفعول, أحداث وقعت في يوم قادم, سينما سينما, معركة القبعات الساطعة, تدييك, غرفة صف ذات نافذة, عودة, حب, أجيال, كوميديا اللدائن, يا طالع الشجرة, أسماء, هل تعرفون حقاً كم الوقت؟, شوطان, ثم أغلق الباب, تلك الرائحة, حسابات مدروسة, مو... حاضر, قميص داخلي, درس خياطة, إشارة مرور, ايزو, تدشين, أين الطاسة, نسيان, ربطة عنق, رجل متخلف, كان.. صار.
