كان الإمام تقي الدين شيخ الإسلام أحمد بن عبد الحليم بن عبد السلام بن عبد الله ابن أبي القاسم بن الخضر النميري الحراني أبو العباس، والذي اشتهر بـ" ابن تيمية" ممن عاصروا فترة ظهور التتار على المسلمين، وما استتبع ذلك من انتشار أفكار غريبة على ديننا الإسلامي وعقيدته السمحة، فجند الإمام ابن تيمية- رحمه الله- علمه وقلمه وكل ما أوتي ليدافع عن عقيدة المسلمين وشريعتهم، كما كان- رحمه الله- نموذجاً للداعية الحصيف الذي يفقه مقتضيات عصره وعلومه، فقد جمع بين غزارة العلم، وعمق الفهم، والإحاطة بعلوم الشريعة والعلوم الفلسفية والكلامية، والعلوم الرياضية وغيرها، وكان من محصلة هذا الجهاد الطويل: أن كتب الإمام وأملى آلاف الأوراق، حتى بلغت تصانيفه ثلاثمائة مجلدة، كما ذكر صاحب فوات الوفيات- وقيل: وتزيد على أربعة آلاف كراسة، ولأن الله- عز وجل- يريد الخير لهذه الأمة، فقد قيض لها من العلماء الأفاضل من أزاح التراب عن هذا التراث، وأظهر درره للنور، فاهتم علماء المسلمين بمؤلفات الإمام، وبدأت تظهر للنور كمؤلفات مستقلة في موضوعات مختلفة، في العقيدة، والتفسير، والفقه، وغيرها.
ونظراً لأنه- حتى الآن- لم يتم إخراج أعمال ابن تيمية كاملة، فقد عزمنا على القيام بهذا المشروع الكبير، وقد يتطلب ذلك منا أن نقوم بحصر جميع مخطوطات ابن تيمية داخل مصر وخارجها، المطبوع منها وغير المطبوع، ومن خلال الموسوعات المتخصصة في فهرسة المخطوطات، للوقوف على أماكن وجودها، وهو ما تم فعلاً.
