ما زال تاريخ الولايات المتحدة الأميركية، يحظى بإهتمام كبير من لدن المؤرخين والباحثين، ذلك لما تضمنه تاريخ هذه الدولة من أحداث وتطورات في شتى مجالات الحياة، التي لعبت دوراً كبيراً ليس على صعيد الولايات المتحدة فحسب، وإنما على صعيد العالم، وما تركته تلك الأحداث والتطورات من آثار واضحة على مجمل الوقائع التاريخية والدولية.
يهدف هذا البحث إلى دراسة تاريخ الحرب الأميركية - البريطانية 1812- 1815، التي تعد واحدة من أبرز الحروب في تاريخ الولايات المتحدة الأميركية بعد حرب الإستقلال، وأول حرب لها بعد قيام دولة الولايات المتحدة الأميركية الحديثة، والتي عدها عدد من المؤرخين الأميركيين بأنها حرب الإستقلال الثاني، وهذا ما أشار له الرئيس ماديسون في خطابه أمام الكونغرس قبيل إعلان الحرب.
وقد حددت الفترة من 1812- 1815، على إعتبار أن إعلان الحرب قد جاء في عام 1812 من قبل الحكومة الأميركية على بريطانيا، الذي عد في وقتها من أصعب القرارات التي اتخذتها أميركا في حينها، وقد لاقى إعتراضاً من قبل بعض الساسة الأميركيين؛ أما نهاية الحرب فقد كانت في عام 1815، وذلك بعد أن توجت الجهود الدبلوماسية بمعاهد (جينت) للسلام بين البلدين المتحاربين، التي سجلت نجاحاً سياسياً ودبلوماسياً للمفاوض الأميركي، الذي استطاع من خلال تلك المعاهدة أن يحافظ على مصالح الولايات المتحدة وفي ظروف غاية في الصعوبة.
وفي ضوء ما تقدم، فقد ظل تاريخ حرب عام 1812- 1815، مبهماً يعتريه النقص والغموض.
