كان السبب الذي دفعني إلى اختيار موضوع "الحب الإلهي عند صوفية القرنين الثالث والرابع الهجريين" اعتقادي أن معظم أمراض العصر ترجع إلى استغراق الكثير من الناس في أنواع من الحب الفاني وابتعادهم عن الحب الدائم الباقي الذي هو في الحقيقة جوهر الدين عامة والتصوف خاصة.
وترجع أهمية هذا الموضوع إلى كونه موضوعاً جديداً لم يتناوله أحد من الباحثين السابقين، عنينا فيه ببيان أن الحب الإلهي من مصدر إسلامي خالص، وبيان تطور فكرة المحبة خلال القرنين الأول والثاني بإيجاز ثم خلال القرنين الثالث والرابع الهجريين بالتفصيل.. هذا بالإضافة إلى أن هذا الموضوع يبرز لنا عدداً من شخصيات المحبين من زهاد وصوفية خلال الفترة السابقة.
