لا يوجد على ظهر الأرض دِينٌ يستطيع تابعُه أن يفخر بجزئياته وكلياته، وأنظمته وتشريعاته، وعلاقاته وأخلاقه، ورقائقه ومحاسنه، ودنياه وأخراه مثل الإسلام، ومع ذلك ما فتئت السهام تُوجَّه إلى مكرُماته ومآثره. ومن جملة تلكَ السهام الطعنُ في ذات رسول الله ﷺ وصفاته ورسالته، وفي نقل سنته وحديثه ﷺ إلينا. فجاء هذا المؤلَّفُ مُفرَداً في بيان الإسناد، وطُرق نقل الحديث، واختصاص هذه الأمة المباركة ـ ثم أهل السنة والجماعة ـ بخصيصة الإسناد التي تمتاز به دون سائر الأمم. وقد انتظم هذا الكتاب في تمهيد عن مكانة السنة النبوية ووجوب العمل بها، تلته ثلاثة أبواب: أولها في نشأة الإسناد في الرواية وأهميته، وثانيها في أنواع الإسناد وأقسامه، وآخرها في عناية الأمة بالإسناد.
