وجعل ترتيب أبوابه على النسق الذي بدأه الإمام الحافظ أبو عمرو الداني، وجرت عليه معظم المؤلفات من بعده وهو البدء بالأصول وهي الأحكام العامة المطردة التي يكثر دوراتها في القرآن الكريم وتتناول جميع ما يرد فيه، ثم بالفرش وهو بيان كلمات الخلاف التي يقل دوراتها ويكون الحكم فيها قاصراً على الموضع الأول ولا يتعداه إلا بالتنبيه عليه...
وقد أضاف إلى أبواب الأصول باباً جديداً هو باب ضم أول الساكنين... كما أنه تتمه للفائدة أثبت رؤوس الآيات التي اختلفت فيها رواية ورش عن رواية حفص...
