أمسّ أصول دعائم الإحسان والإيمان والإسلام هو معرفة التوحيد المجرد من إضافة التقييد، المحفوظ عن تصميم التقليد الموصوف بعلم الأسماء والصفات المتنزه عن حدوث طرق الآفات، الجامع لذكر معاني إسم الإلهية، المشتملة على جملة لطائف الأسرار المعنوية والذخائر النفسية، المصونة، والجواهر الثمينة المكنونة، هو أصل المعارف الدينية، ومحل العوارف اليقينية، لأن شرف العلوم على قدر شرف المعلوم، وشرف العالم على قدر شرف علمه. وعلم التوحيد موقوف على معرفة الواحد وصفة وحدانيته، ومعرفة الله هي الغاية القصوى، واللباب الأصفى. وتسرب عذب لكل عبد وارد، ولا يصل للتنعم بشربها الا واحد بعد واحد، وهي المطلوبة لذاتها عين الزيادة، وبها تنال أعظم الأحوال وأتمّ الإفادة. وأن بداية السالك طلب المعرفة، ونهاية غايته توحيد الذات والصفة لأن معرفة الله غاية الغايات، وتوحيده أجل وأكمل النهايات، والعلم به يفيد ذات الذاكر بيانا وتحقيقا، والعمل بمقتضاه يزيد في صفات السائر برهانا وتوفيقا. وصاحب هذا الكتاب ابن عطاء الله السكندري من أخذ العلوم والحكم أشرفها وأرفعها، ومن المعاني صفوها وألطفها وأنعمها، وهو من فهم حكم باطنية أمرها. وعلم حكم علانيتها وسرها، فتجوهر باطن قلبه، وتمهد ظاهر أدبه، وتسمى في الحقيقة إنساناً. وشاهد الحق حقاً عياناً. وصار الخير بالذات في الأوصاف والصفات، وعرف الله إيماناً ويقيناً، فأنشأ كتابه هذا حول معارفه تلك، وصنعه بياناً وتبييناً، وقد أودع فيه من اللطائف الغريبة والنكت والعلوم والمعارف البحتية، ما يكتفي يقدره، ويستغني بذكره من غرائب العلم وعجائب الحكم، وفوائد الطرف، وفوائد التحف. وسماه " القصد المجرد في معرفة الإسم المفرد" وهو الله جلّ ذكره وعزّ قدره. وحصر مجموعه في قسمين، أن على قسم منها بشاهد أدلة صحيح منقول البيان، ومنقول صحيح البرهان، من الكتاب والسنة وقول العلماء، ومن اقتفى أثرهم من الفضلاء والصوفية.
كتاب عظيم شريف يختص باسمه الأعظم سبحانه وتعالى (الله) وتفصيل حروفه، واشتقاقه، ومقتضى احكامه، أسمائه، ومعرفة فضله وشرف قدره، وشرح معاني أسراره واختصاص فوائده. وهو كتاب هام لكل سالك في حب الله تعالى. ويتضمن في طيّه كتاب حبة المحبة للشيخ محمود بن فضل الله بن محمود الاسكداري، طرح المؤلف فيه مفهوم المحبة عند الصوفية ووضع رسالته هذه في ثلاثة فصول
