إن كتاب "شرح السنة" للإمام المفسر المتقن, والمحدث الجليل والفقيه البارع, محيي السنه, أبي محمد الحسين بن مسعود الفراء البغوي, من أجل كتب السنة التى وصلت إلينا من تراث سلفنا الصالح ترتيبا, وتنقيحا, وتوثيقا وإحكاما, وإحاطة بجوانب ما ألف فيه, وأنشئ من أجله, وهو يبين عن سعة اطلاع على الحديث ونقلته, ودراية بالرويات وعللها, ومعرفة بمذاهب الصحابة والتابعين, وأئمة الأمصار المجتهدين, وأمانة في النقل والتحقيق.
وقد رتب كتابه على الكتب الفقهية, فجمع الأحاديث المتعلقة بكل موضوع فى مكان واحد, وقد توخى الدقة في اختيار ذلك. وكثيرا ما يفتتح كل كتاب , وأحيانا بعض الأبواب بآيات قرآنية تناسب موضوعه, مذيلة بما أثر عن الصحابة والتابعين من تفسير لها, وتوضيح لمعانيها.
ثم يسوق الأحاديث المتعلقة بالباب الذي ترجم له من كتب السنة المعتمدة بالسند المتصل إلى مؤلفيها, وقد التزم غالبا أن يذكر السند إلى النبي (صلى الله عليه وسلم) ثم يذكر من أخرجه إذا كان في الصحيحين, أو في أحداهما, فيقول: متفق عليه, أو أخرجه البخاري, أو مسلم, ومراده بذلك انهما أخرجا أصله وبعض لفظه, أو معناه, لا كله نصا, وفي بعض الحيان يذكر الحديث بسنده من احد الصحيحين, ثم يعقب عليه بقوله: هذا حديث صحيح, او متفق على صحته.
ولقد حرصنا في هذه الرسالة تيسير ما جاء في كتاب البغوي رحمه الله, وتقريبه إلى جميع المسلمين عامتهم وخاصتهم, وقد قمت في صدد ذلك بعدة أمور تتلخص فيما يلي: 1. حذف أسانيد الأحاديث المذكورة بأسانيدها 2. الاقتصار علي الحاديث المحتج بها 3. حذف الأحاديث الضعيفه التى لاشاهد لها فيما أورده المؤلف أو غيره 4. ذكرنا ما أورده رحمه الله من شرح وتعليق وبيان معاني الألفاظ وأقوال أهل العلم من الصحابة والتابعين والأئمة ومن بعدهم. وقد اقتصرنا في هذه الرسالة علي ما ذكره رحمه الله في كتاب البر وصلة, وما فيه من بيان مايجب من بر الوالدين وصلة الأرحام والإحسان إلى الإخوان والجيران وسائر المسلمين, ونحو ذلك من الأخلاق الفاضلة التي ينبغى أن يتمسك بها كل مسلم.
