تبدأ متاقات طاهر رياض الشعرية من وعيه بهشاشة الوجود وبؤسه. ثمة موت هو جزء من بنيتنا الوجودية، يتجلى في مرايانا المتشظية، ويجلي فراغ أرواحنا، ويشفّ عن حزنٍ لصيق بأعماقنا وألم أبدي في وجداننا. وعلى إيقاع الموت يتصاعد إيقاع الشعر، لا للوصول إلى النهايات أو وصف التحولات، إنما للقبض على لحظة التكوين الأولى، لحظة السكون حين كنت "الدنيا عماءً خالصاً"، وذلك بغية تفجير طاقات الحركة الكامنة في هذا السكون: "الروح الأولية اليانعة الطرية".
تحاول هذه الدراسة مقاربة تجربة طاهر رياض الشعرية، باعتمادها منهجاً تكاملياً يفيد من منطلقات الأسلوبية، وأطروحات البنيوية، على حد سواء مع معطيات السيميائية اللغوية التي تتيح اكتناه الأبعاد الإشارية النفسية والاجتماعية للغة، الأمر الذي منحها حيوية نأت بها عن الشكلانية، ومكنتها من كشف التجليات الإبداعية التي تميز بها أسلوب الشاعر ورؤيته الفنية، حيث لم تقتصر على دراسة المعنى على المستوى الدلالي، إنما تعدته إلى دراسة المعنى على المستويين الصوتي والنحوي.
