هناك شعراء أندلسيون ذاع صيتهم في زمانهم وكانوا ملء السمع والبصر, ولكن إبداعهم الشعري لم يسلم من عوادي الزمن, ففقدت دواوينهم, وضاعت أشعارهم, ولم يبق منها إلا النزر اليسير. وقد حاولت في هذا المجموع الشعري أن أجمع ما تناثر من شعر بعض الشعراء المنسيين من بطون المصادر الأندلسية والمغربية والمشرقية, واخترت شعراء ينتمون إلى عصور أندلسية مختلفة هم: ابن هذيل (ت 389هـ), عبادة بن ماء السماء (ت 421هـ), ابن الأبار الخولاني (ت 433هـ), أبو عامر بن مسلمة (كان معاصرًا لابن الأبار الخولاني), السميسر (ت 480هـ), ابن هانئ الأصغر (ت قبل سنة 560هـ), أبو جعفر بن سعيد (ت 559هـ), بالإضافة إلى ثلاث شاعرات أندلسيات هن ولادة ونزهون وحفصة الركونية. ولم يكن اختيار هؤلاء الشعراء خاضعًا لعامل المصادفة وإنما لعدة اعتبارات, منها أن لمعظمهم دواوين مفقودة.
