تتكون نبات سوريا من 3109 أنواع تنتمي إلى 840 جنساً، 102 من هذه الأنواع متوطن أما الأنواع الباقية، التي تشكل 96.7 بالمائة فتنبت أيضاً في بلدان أخرى، لا سيما بلدان الشرق الأوسط وحوض المتوسط، وبالتالي فإن مضمون هذا المعجم ينطبق على نباتاتها.
