اعتمد المؤلف في تأليف هذا الكتاب في مجال فسيولوجيا النبات على أحدث المراجع العربية والإنجليزية المتاحة، كما عمد إلى توطئة المعرفة وتيسيرها للدارسين مما يمكنهم من إدراك المعنى بأسهل الطرق وأيسرها، إضافة إلى ذلك فقد سعى إلى إعطاء الدارسين تفاصيل كافية عن أسس وقواعد فسيولوجيا النبات مما يستحدث شغف الطلاب ويمكنهم من إدراك الإتجاهات البحثية في هذا المجال الذي تتجدد فيه المعرفة وتتزايد فيه البحوث العلمية يوماً بعد يوم.
عمد في هذا الجهد المتواضع إلى تجميع المادة الأساسية بين دفتي كتاب واحد، وتشمل هذه المادة الموضوعات التالية: الخلية النباتية، الماء والمحاليل، العلاقات المائية للنبات، التغذية المعدنية، الإنزيمات، البناء الضوئي، التنفس، النمو والتكشف في النباتات الزهرية وتنظيم النمو في النبات.
تعطي هذه الموضوعات الدارسين فكرة متكاملة عن علم وظائف أعضاء النبات بدءاً بالخلية النباتية بإعتبارها الوحدة الأساسية والوظيفة في بناء جسم النبات، وإنتهاء بفسيولوجيا النبات البيئية التي تتناول أنواع الإجهاد البيئي الذي يواجه النباتات في بيئاتها المتباينة والتكيفات الفسيولوجية التي تمكن تلك النباتات من مقاومة تلك الإجهادات أو تفاديها.
