ويقترح الياس مرقص مبادئ وأسس قابلة للبناء عليها. الدين والفلسفة عند الياس مرقص ميدانان مختلفان وغير متخارجان وكذلك الدين والسياسة. ومن يقول بتخارج الدين والسياسة يجعل السياسة دين والدين سياسة وهذا أقرب إلى الإلحاد الديني. وفصل الدين عن السياسة عنه هو فصل من أجل الوصل.
ويتناول الكتاب: نقد الكلمات وتحرير المفاهيم والمقولات, المادية والمثالية, بذرة الديالكتيك الاستلاب والاغتراب, الانحطاط والنهضة وعبد الناصر والناصرية, إعادة إنتاج مقولات عصر النهضة وتعميقها, ملحق ومسائل للفكر العربي. ولقد حرص الياس مرقص على استعادة الجذر الروحي للكاركسية, شرطاً لاندماجها في الفكر العربي, وتقليصاً إن لم يكن نفياً لطابعها الأوربي الغربي وبرانيتها.
