إنَّ علمَ الصَّرف علمٌ جلْدٌ متعدِّدُ الرّوافد، وَعِرُ المسلكِ متشعِّبُ الموارد، تناولَهُ العلماءُ فسنَّوا فيه القواعد، فبانتْ أحكامُه وتجلَّت لكلِّ وارد، خاصَّة ما كثُر منه واطَّرد، وما تخلَّف كان مطروداً يترقَّبه شهابٌ راصِد، شغل القدماء من الصَّرفيِّين، وما يزال محطَّ إهتمام كثير من العلماءِ المحدثين، يعكفون على دراسته، ليبينَّوا خفاياهَ، ويوضِّحوا قواعده وأحكامه.
وكان من توفيق الله عزَّ وجلَّ أن ألَج غمار هذا البحر اللُّجيّ في دراسة لــ "ما لم يطَّرد في كلام العرب" يدفعني إلى ذلك أمران:
الأوَّل: أنَّني لم أجدْ أحداً من العلماءِ - على عظيم إهتمامهِم وعميمِ فضلهم - من خصَّها بمصنَّفٍ يُخلِّد أوابدَها، ويجمعُ شَواردها، وإنَّما بقيت موادٌّها مبثوثةً في ثنايا المصنَّفاتِ النَّحويَّةِ والصَّرفيَّة وكتبِ معاني القرآن الكريم والتَّفسير والقراءاتِ وغيرها، ممَّا يجعلُ العودةَ إليها غيرَ ميسورةٍ، فأردت أنْ أجمع شتاتَها، وألمَّ شعثَها في كتاب يُيسِّرُ على الدَّارسين العودةَ إليها.
الثَّاني: أنَّ ما وقفتُ عليه مِمَّا لم يطَّردْ يوازي المطَّرد في بابه؛ بل إنَّ غير المطِّردِ يكاد في بعض المباحث يفوقُ المطَّردَ، فعكفتُ على دراسةِ هذه الظَّاهرة في موروث لغتنا العربيَّة دراسةً تبيِّنٍ حقيقَتَها، وتحاولَ كشفَ الأسبابِ التي أدَّت إلى وصفها بعدم الأطرادِ، وإخراجها من دائرة الوصفِ بذلك، ما وُفقِّت إليه بحولِ الله وقوَّتِه.
وجاءت الدِّراسةُ موزَّعةً على ستَّةِ فصولِ مسبوقةٍ بمقدمةٍ وتمهيدٍ اختصَّ بالحديثِ عن معنى الأطرادِ وعدمِه، وأنهيتها بالفهارس العامَّة التي تُسهِّل على القارئ العودة إلى مضمونِهَا، وقد اعتمدتُ في توزيع بعض الفصولِ على تقسيم ابن الحاجبِ في شافيته، إلا أنَّ الضَّرورَة في تناسبِ الحجم دفعتني إلى تعديلها، وأثبت في نهايةِ كلِّ فصلِ النتَّائجَ التي توصَّلَتُ إليها أثناء دراسته.
