Avec pertinence et finesse, l'auteur nous invite a clarifier certaines de no 'idees recues' sur l'islam. En particulier: ne pas confondre l'islam et musulmans. Pour l'auteur, "il faut donc faire une difference radicale entre le modele de l'etre humain ideal tel que le propose l'islam, en particulier a travers la revelation coranique et l'exemple du Prophete Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم, d'une part, et d'autre part la realite du vecu de beaucoup de musulmans qui, comme tous les etres humains, ne sont pas a l'abri des mauvaises actions."
