يضم الكتاب نتاج أعمال أول ندوة عقدت في القاهرة للحوار العربي الكردي وذلك في 27-28 أيار/مايو 1997م، في قاعة تحمل اسم (صلاح الدين) في أحد فنادقها الكبرى. وقد كان هذا الحوار موضوعي هادف ارتفع إلى مستوى التقدير السليم للظروف التي تعيشها المنطقة، وأوضح عن رغبة أكراد كردستان في وحدة العراق ووضع أسس جديدة لاستمرار علاقاتهم مع عرب العراق في إطار وطن قومي واحد. كما أوضح أيضاً عن رغبة العرب في احترام حقوق الأكراد وثقافتهم القومية. وقد ساهم في هذه الندوة عدد من السياسيين المرموقين والذين مثلوا مؤسسات حزبية أو لجان سياسية همها الأول متابعة العلاقات الكردية العربية على كافة المستويات.
ويعتبر هذا الكتاب بنصوصه بمثابة وثيقة أولى تليها وثائق ندوات ودراسات لاحقة لا شك ستساهم في إرساء علاقات عميقة بين شعوب قائمة على التفاهم والاحترام المتبادل والاعتراف بالحقوق المشروعة للشعب الكردي، ورعاية المصالح المشتركة.
